RAY – "Y" pattern, double chamber diaphragm control valveRAY
RAY is a high performance hydraulic control valve. The "no-spring" valve has a double-chamber, rubber and fabric diaphragm actuating a guided globe plug.
This new design consists of one universal throttling plug in each size to suite all applications needs. Designed to provide low friction loss yet prevents water surge. It is the valve of choice for water distribution and industrial use. Here again simplicity and perfection came into one.
Diameter: DN50 – DN300
Working Pressure: PN10-PN16
Standard: DIN/ANSI/BS
Parts' breakdown of RAY
The RAY 60 is a piloted hydraulic valve activated by line pressure. The pilot valve has a spirng-loaded membrane, which is sensitive to downstream pressure. The pilot's spring is preset to a desirable reduced pressure. The pilot valve maintains a constant downstream pressure by gradually opening and closing of the main valve. The pressure is maintanied constant regardless of changes in the flow rate.
---------------------------------
The RAY 70 maintains a steady flow rate at any working conditions. Regardless of pressure chagnes or demand, the vale will keep flow constant. The flow is controlled by a pilot and a calibrated orifice plate, and can be adjusted within a range of 20%. The orifice plate size is determined by the requiered flow range and is specific for each project.
--------------------------------
The RAY 68 performs both pressure reducing and pressure sustainnig features. It maintains a constant upstream pressure to an adjusted value as a pressure sustaining valve, and reduces greater upstream pressure to a steady lower downstream pressure as a pressure reducing valve. Both functions occur independently, and the valve constantly modulates accordingly.
---------------------------------
The RAY 80 pressure sustainig valve automatically controls the preset upstream pressure. The inlet pressure will be maintained steady reagardless of changes in flow rate or downstream pressure. The pressure sustaining valve is commonly used as a pressure relief valve, installed in a T configuration. At any conidition, the valve will open only after the preset pressure is achieved.
----------------------------------
The RAY 13, Bi level control valve maintains liquid level in water tanks, reservoirs and water storages. The valve will fully close at a high preset point when water reaches its maximum level, and fully opens at a different, adjustable preset point, allowing water flow in. The bi level control vale is an on/off, non modulating control valve.
----------------------------------
The RAY 40, altitude control valve automatically maintains liquid level in water tanks, reservoirs and storages at its maximum preset point. The valve is pilot controlled, and operates by comparing the water column pressure to the spring adjustment. The valve will be fully closed when the water reaches its preset level. The opening level is determined by the spring selection and varies from 30 to 100 cm.
---------------------------------
The RAY 8020, pump control valve is made to protect pumps from possible damages caused by powerful start-ups and shut-downs of centrifugal pumps. The valve's purpose, is primarily minimizing the formation of surges during on/off operation of the pump, and pretect pump from backflow. The valve is electrically interlocked with pump's control panel. Opening and closing speed can be adjusted, offering a smooth start-up and shut-downs. By the action of a pilot, the pump control valve is also used to regulate maximum flow.
---------------------------------
The RAY 90, anti-burst valve, prevents water flow in pipes and systems that have been physically damaged from any reason. A high sensitivity flow pilot and an orifice plate, that indicates the current flow in the pipeline, control the valve. When a preset flow ("burst" condition) is reached, the valve will tight close. The valve can only be re-opened manually by turning the manual override cock valve in its control loop.
RAF - Diaphragm Control ValveRAF
In 1993 Raphael has launched RAF - a new concept of diaphragm hydraulic control valve consisting of three basic parts: body, cover and diaphragm, each one is made of durable materials.
The inner flow passages are streamlined and coated with low-friction materials.
This provides quiet flow in both directions, low head-loss and minimal wear.
RAF valves operate with a patented reinforced diaphragm, which eliminates the need for a retaining metal spring. The special elastic design enables gradual and precise opening and closing of the valves. By eliminating a metal spring, the RAF is virtually maitenance free.

Two Way Pressure Reducing/Sustaining Control Valve
The RAF 60 and RAF 62 are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure.
Typical Applications: Use for general water supply systems with medium pressure rating. The 2-way pilot configuration together with Raphael's patented diaphragm enables smooth and precise pressure control.
The RAF 68 and RAF 682 are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. Both pilots have spring-loaded membrane. One pilot is sensible to upstream pressure and the other to downstream pressure. The combined operation of the two pilot valves sustain a constant upstream pressure of the valve, and at the same time reduces the downstream pressure to a preset pressure. The 68/682 valve opens and closes gradually to maintain both required pressures simultaneously.
Typical Applications:
use to pressure reducing/sustaining valve to define two pressure zones along a supply line, typically, along a downhill flow. Use 68/682 for general water supply systems with medium pressure rating. The elaborated 2-way command with Raphael's patented diaghragm enables smooth and precise pressure control.
Flow Rate Control Valve
The RAF 70 are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. Normally the RAF 70 is partly open to allow a preset constant flow rate. The flow rate through the RAF 70 is determined indirectly using an orifice plate. The head loss across the orifice is proportional to the actual flow rate. On rising head loss, the RAF 70 is automatically piloted to close. On the other case, the valve opens. Thus the flow rate is maintained constant, regardless of line pressure fluctuations or the downstream deman.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 70 Flow Rate Control valve to maintain a compensated constant flow rate to limit the flow downstream. RAF 70 has two-way metal pilot valve for general use in wter supply systems of medium pressure rating. Apply RAF 70 to eliminate excessive pumping or to limit the water demand.
The RAF 88 are adjusted to eliminate hazardous pressure surges typical of water hammer conditions. A water hammer is caused by an abrupt shutoff of a pump or rapid closure of a main valve, causing a fast, propagation of low-pressure fornt, followed by an extremely high-pressure waves, each one composed of alternating low and high pressure is created within a few seconds.
The RAF 88 is a piloted hydraulic valve activated by line pressure. The valve has two pilots, for high and low pressure. Under normal conditions, the RAF 88 is closed. It opens when the line pressure drops below a preset pressure, in anticipation to the following surge, and remains open until the fluctuations subside.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 88 to protect water lines against water hammer damages. Uphill supply lines of considerable length and large diameter pipes are more susceptible to water hammer damages.
Quick Pressure Relief Control Valve
The RAF 80Q are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. The two-way pilot valve has a spring-loaded membrane, which is sensitive to upstream pressure. The RAF 80Q is normally closed. As line pressure rises above the preset level, the valve opens quickly to relieve the excessive pressure.
Quick pressure relief valve protects water systems from quickly rising excessive pressure, due to water hammer surge. It is recommended to install RAF 80Q at the system head, right next to the main supply line or booster pump.
Typical Applications
Use RAF 80Q for general water supply systems with medium pressure rating. The elaborated two-way pilot with Raphael's patented diaghragm enables smooth and precise pressure control.
Flow Rate Control Valve
The RAF 31-33 are activated by line pressure. The valves open or close by electric command through a selectioin of solenoid valves. the solenoid opens or closes the RAF/RAY/G 31-33 as it is energized by an electric pulse. The electric pulse that commands the valve is generated by a controller, timer, sensor or an electric control device.
Typical Applications:
RAF 31-33 are used for remote operation of hydraulic valves by an electric command. The valves can be configured either as Normally Open (NO) or Normally closed (NC).
Altitue Control Valve
The RAF 40/43 is usted to maintain a preset water level of reservoirs or water tanks. The RAF 40/43 is activated by line pressure, and is commanded by an Altitude pilot. The altitude pilot is mounted on the valve, threfore there is o installation requiered on top of the reservoir. The RAF 40/43 controls the maximum water level of the reservoir by controlling the maximum water column pressure generated by the water inside the water storage.
The RAF 40/43 stays open as long as the water level of the reservoir is below a preset level. The RAF 40/43 is a non modulating service valve, operating as an on/off valve.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 40/43 for reservoirs and water tanks level controls, especially in high rise reservoirs. Line pressure provides energy suitable for operation. RAF 40/43 is particularly suitable for remote sites. Due to its simple design it is vitually maintenance free.
Two-Way Pressure Sustaing/Relief Control Valve
The RAF 80/82 are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. The pilot valve has a spring-loaded membrane, which is exposed to the upstream pressure. The valve is normally closed. Only when the line pressure rises above a preset point, the RAF 80/82 opens to relieve the excessive pressure downstream without causing surge hazards. When the line pressure drops, the RAF 80/82 closes.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 80/82 to maintain constant upstream pressure and to avoid undesirable high pressure. This protection is required for most irrigation devices, domestic and industrial utilities. Use RAF 80/82 for general water supply systems with medium pressure rating.
Three-Way Pressure Sustaing/Relief Control Valve
The RAF 83B are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. The pilot valve has a spring-loaded membrane, which is exposed to the upstream pressure. The valve is normally closed. Only when the line pressure rises above a preset point, the RAF 83B opens to relieve the excessive pressure downstream without causing surge hazards. When the line pressure drops, the RAF 83B re-closes.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 83B to maintain constant upstream pressure and to avoid undesirable high pressure. This protection is required for most irrigation devices, domestic and industrial utilities.
Anti-Burst Control Valve
The RAF 90 are piloted hydraulic valves activated by line pressure. The valve is normally open. Only in case of flow rate higher than a preset maximum, due to a burst or excessive demand downstream, the RAF 90 is automatically closed down and can reopen manually. The actual flow rate through the RAF 90 is determined by comparing the headloss acrossan orifice plate. the valve is closed down by a hydraulic relay.
Typical Applications:
Use RAF 90 to eliminate water loss and damage due to piping burst. The valve is best in networks susceptible to burst due to old piping, vandalism or pressure surge. The RAF 90 features a metal pilot valve and hydraulic relay to ensure precise and reliable response in general use.

G - Globe Pattern, Piston Actuated Control ValveG
Hydraulic Control Valve is the most efficient valve for automatic operation of industrial and municipal distribution systems or any other system that requires adjustable working conditions.
The valve operates by pipeline water pressure and does not require any other external energy source. The valve is a completely independent device and can be installed at any location in the pipeline, provided there is just a minimum water pressure allowing its operation. An operating piston surface double the size of the sealing surface enables the control chamber movement towards opening or closing with no external force or energy required.
The G type is a piston actuated valve, which varies from 2" to 32" in a pressure ranging from PN-16 to PN-64.
Raphael G type, globe pattern, piston actuated control valves are a heavy duty, high pressure and large diameters throttling valves.
As a piston actuated valve it is specially designed to withstand high restriction levels at a wide range of flow and diameters.
The metal construction of the piston enables a smooth operation, with no vibrations. Bronze and Stainless steel internal parts provide a cavitation resistance at very low flows keeping metal and iron parts of valves from being damaged. Low corrosion rates are obtainable due to high quality bronze and stainless steel internal parts and high quality epoxy or enamel coating (Potable water approved).
Regulation in high restriction rates is obtainable by a half restricted plug that combine a cost effective protection to seat and seal, keeping sensitive parts in the valve from high velocity water passage.
Globe pattern body construction gives equal wear for the control unit, thus prolonging its lifespan.

FI - Finger Filter
General Description
The finger filter is a self flushing screen filter installed in the water inlet of the valve's control system.
It is used to prevent impurities from infiltrating into the control system and disturbing its operation by restricting, or even clogging, water passages.
Raphael's finger filter is desinged to be maintenance free, screwed into the valve's body sampling water from the main pipe. The finger filter will provide a safe water source into the control loop.
Application
The finger filter is ideally desinged for operation with RAF hydraulic control valve for irrigation applications as a main filter for the control system, for both PN-10 and PN-16 applications.
Use the FI finger filter in any control system to prevent eventaul malfunction due to impurities, installing it in the water intake to the control loop.

SY- 3-way Cock Valve
General Description
The SY 3-W cock valve is a 3 port spherical valve, mounted on the valve's control chamber and used to change water passage between control chamber and 3 other optional ports. The SY is equipped with 4 connections<
1- Common port (unmarked) - always connected to the valve's control chamber.
2- "O"- connects the valve's control chamber to the open air and used to override the control system, manually opening the valve.
3- "C" - connects the valve's control chamber to the pressure supply and used to override the control system, manually closing the valve.
4- "A" - connects the valve's control chamber to the control system and used as the default operating position to be able to use the automatic control function of the application.
Application
Use SY 3-W cock valve with every RAF valve application where override option is necessary, enabling local opening and closing of the valve, regardless of the automatic control function command. The SY is desinged for both PN-10 and PN-16 control systems.
